Best States to live in...

Do you think living in a particular state makes getting into college any easier, considering some states have significantly better education systems (New York, California, etc.)?

At the same time, many of those states are over represented. These are the asians of the states. It is harder to get into most schools from New York than from Wyoming.

i would say living anywhere in the midwest, pacific northwest (not california), but oregon and washington state, places like arizona, new mexico, and parts of the southeast (MS, GA, Kentucky, Alabama) are all places that are traditionally underrepresented.

maybe wyoming...not many people from there lol

In terms of having in state options, CA, PA, VA, MI, FL, TX are hard to beat.

Are you asking?:

(1) In which state is it easiest to get into a college?

(2) In which state is it easiest to get into an excellent college?

(3) In which state is it easiest to get into an excellent college at a reasonable price?

New York and California would seem to have an advantage with question #3 since they have excellent public universitites that charge reasonable in-state tuition.

Wyoming would seem to have the advantage with #2 since there are few students and most great colleges like to say that they have students attending from all 50 states.

States like Pennsylvania and Indiana would seem to have the advantage with #1 since they apparently have the greatest number of public colleges (and open spots at public colleges) relative to the size of their in-state student population.

California satisfies all three criteria:[ol]
[]Low-tier UCs (UCSC, UCR, UCM) and Cal States offer guaranteed acceptance
[]High-tier UCs (UCB, UCLA, UCSD) and Stanford/Caltech/Pomona are highly regarded
[li]In-state tuition at the UCs make them excellent for California residents[/li][/ol]
