What are the best student apartments near OU in terms of location, safety, good management, reasonable rent etc.? We will be starting apartment hunting for D for next year soon. She prefers a furnished apartment, all utilities included and will likely want a 2 bedroom. She is looking for a quieter space, not a party scene. Any thoughts about Kraetli, Traditions, and University Greens? I read some on-line reviews about some other apartment complexes in the area that sounded like they may have terrible management problems. All information is welcome.

My son lives in Traditions East and likes it just fine. I really like the set-up of the apartments. He is in a four bedroom. Each boy has his own locked cabinet in the kitchen and his own sink/vanity area. Two boys share a toilet/shower area.

The location is good, too. He walks over to Lloyd Noble and catches the shuttle so he doesn’t have to mess with parking on campus, which is a nightmare.

@ohmmom I hope you will post your impressions of various places if you go look at them with your D! Mine will be looking at apartments for next year soon too, and we’re not from the area so she and her friends will be looking at the options themselves. I’d definitely like to hear a parent’s perspective. I’ve read many negative reviews on-line too…

@Soonermom95, glad to hear about Traditions East. Is there much difference between the East and West Traditions aside from location? Do the university-run apartments have a school-year lease, or 12 months?

@tikimom School year lease.

@ohmmom, I’m not sure how much stock I’d place in the apartment reviews, excepting Bishop’s Landing which truly is awful. I lived in Crimson Park and found the management to be superb, even though many of the reviews make it out to be atrocious.

Krattelli is nice but it’s mostly graduate students. The University Greens community is much younger and I’ve only heard good things about it. Another possibility is Campus Lodge. It’s about a mile and a half from campus, on the apartment loop route, fully furnished, and offers excellent amenities. The Reserves on Stinston is close to campus, and furnished, albeit somewhat more expensive.

Personally I prefer to go the subletting route. MANY OU students sign a lease and then drop out, study abroad, etc leaving them desperate to find someone to take their place for a semester or two. There’s a group on Facebook for OU students called Housing where students list the properties they’re trying to get rid of.

Soonermom, thanks for the info. Do you have any idea how quiet it is at Traditions? D is not on a party floor in the dorm and still says the walls are thin and some people just talk loudly.

tikimom, I’ll be happy to share what I find out. I’m not sure when we will start looking but D is already talking about an apartment.

whenhen, thanks so much for the input. You are great about responding with helpful info and it is appreciated. I’m taking notes from your reply to guide our hunt.

I welcome more opinions. The more the merrier.

I currently live in University Greens. I don’t feel strongly about it one way or another. It’s not particularly great. Very small, not the nicest. But I expect that with how cheap the rent is. It’s far from atrocious and that’s good enough for me. I do have a big issue with the internet here though. It is simply terrible. For me, I have to go on campus to study if the internet is a necessity for my assignments. That alone is driving me away from them next year. There’s nothing worse than coming home from a day of classes and work to try and relax, unwind and get some homework done, only to find out that you can’t even use Google for your paper and need to go back to campus.

I’ve heard positive things about Traditions and Campus Lodge.

Woolscarves…thanks! D and I had not even thought about finding out whether the internet connection was good. That will definitely go on the list of “must haves.”
