Best Student Credit Cards

American express flat out denied me for blue for students. No cosigner required my ass.

BofA wouldn't let me get a my school's credit cards. Damn asses.

However, it was awesome when Citi gave me a normal non-student card right when I turned 18.

I highly recommend NOT getting any store-related charge or credit cards. The terms are never favorable and they are generally not considered "healthy" debt, as they tend to result from impulse purchases.

I happen to like my 1st Financial Bank USA card. I don't know if my terms are different from the poster's above, but I do get cash back. Not being able to pay online every month, however, is a pain. They are generous with credit limit increases, however--if you are paying on time, they will increase it every six months (I started with $250 freshman year and am up to about $11k four years later).

CapitalOne used to have decent student cards, but they have changed the terms since. Never get one with an annual fee. CapitalOne will also never increase your credit limit and keep it very small (usually under $3k) in hopes that you will go over and incur fees. They also do not report your credit limit on your credit report, so it looks like you are utilizing more of your credit limit, which can severely damage your score when you're just building credit.

I would look into credit cards offered by the bank you normally do business with. Sovereign Bank has had decent offers for students (9.99%, no fee) and it is a easy card to get.

Make sure that you NEVER get a card that has an annual fee--it's simply not necessary.

As for the CitiMTVU card, I did not personally get it when I was a student, but I have heard good things about it.

thats not true. amex has an annual fee, but features it has - which i have used - have more than made up for it.

they replaced a $430 xbox 360 and the $65 game that was stuck in it because i was screwing around and knocked it off the stand it was on. it was completely broken. since i bought it on my amex, i get great insurance for using the card. i just sent the xbox in and i got a $495 credit on my card within 10 days. go ask visa to do that with your student credit card.

That's nice, but there are other cards that AmEx offers with the same protection but without the annual fee. While there are some cards that have benefits worth an annual fee, basic purchase insurance isn't one of them. I also doubt that most students would qualify for most of the worthwhile cards with annual fees.

haha my AMEX doesn't have an annual fee, and I have the same purchase protection that you do....

Capital one won't let me apply. Stupidheads.

Which Amex card is that?

American Express Blue

I have a Capital One card. I've had it since high school and it has a $5,000 credit limit on it. I guess they assumed that since I was in high school, my parents were just going to pay it anyway (not that they ever actually did). I've been kinda wishing I had one with cash back rewards or something, but I don't actually know how that process works and I'm about to graduate and be ineligible for student cards anyway.
