Hello everyone!!
I was wondering if anyone could suggest the best summer programs and/ or internships? (preferably paid for or inexpensive)
Which programs look better for college applications? Which programs have you had the best experience?
For reference:
I will be a Junior next year and I want to do something in either business, finance, economics, or international relations.
I would prefer inexpensive summer programs, but financially, it is not a problem.
I live in the New York area, but I am willing to travel anywhere.
I would like to attend the program in the summer of 2018 (summer of my junior to senior year).
It would also be preferred if the summer program is more prestigious and merit-based.
(this summer I am attending the Economics for Leaders program, but it’s a pretty easy program to get into)
Georgetown University has some summer programs in International Relations, Entrepreneurship, and other business/economics related programs. They’re definitely pretty expensive but I’ve heard they’re really great. I’m going to one this summer so definitely feel free to ask me any questions about the application process or anything!!
Johns Hopkins Center for Talented Youth has a wonderful website with lists of internships sorted into fields. Just for reference, I applied to every free/pays me program for lab science and that ended up being around 40 programs. I assume there’s a similar amount for your fields. It took lots of research over a few months. I began around October. This summer, I’m working as a high school intern with NASA (and receiving a $2200 stipend)
Try MIT Launch! It’s an entrepreneurship summer program that is 4 weeks at MIT. It is a little bit on the pricey end $6,000 but they are VERY generous with financial aid. I know a couple people who got full scholarships.
If you can get in (~12% acceptance rate), it’s a great opportunity and you can start your own business. Even ir you dont think you can get in, still apply. I was in your same situation and i somehow got in. Good luck!
