are there any good summer programs that will look good on and app and that are interesting and informative? looking for some preferably in international relations, international business, or economics

LEAD!!! If you're an URM.

nope =( white jewish kid :

whats a URM?

underrepresented minority

so any other options for me?

the college your trying to attend most likely has their own summer programs that deal with certian subjects, u may want to look into those. Also, if you are a junior you can try in a couple month for the program im looking into. its a US Senate Youth Program. 2 representatives are chosen from every state to go to D.C. for 2 weeks, they study politics, econmics, and all that good stuff. if you are interested just search that and your state.

tha sounds really interesting but i sound pretty underqualified in the areas theyre looking for. i couldnt find anything on it from NJ anyway other than the announcements of people who were selecetd from past years.

anything else?

Junior Statesman Summer School - basically a four week summer school where you study politics and government at either Northwestern, Georgetown, Yale, Princeton, or Stanford.

High School Summer Scholars Program at WashU - 5 weeks, can take micro and macro for credit!

that junior statesman program looks awesome...im gonna check that out. as for WashU, i dont know if i want to go that far

bump any others?

You can volunteer through Landmark Voluteers. I know it's not what you wrote you were looking for, but I did it and had a good time. Basically, you volunteer and live with about ten other student volunteers and two chaperones. I'm from NJ and I volunteered in New Mexico, but they have programs in basically every state.

Would summer programs really matter unless they are really good in college app's? Freshman summer I took summer school, sophmore summer I going on vacation for the full summer, and junior summer I don't know. So would that be bad even though I have pretty good credits.

nelson do you know if theres anything like that on an international level? sounds pretty fun but i love to travel out of the US :D

anglswings, that program sounds really cool but in my state, we apparently have to be a part of student council to apply and i am not.

A lot of ivy league/top 25 schools have summer programs, including:

Yale
Harvard
Columbia
Cornell
Northwestern
Brown

Most offer college credit as well.

I did Columbia last year - best month of my life.

I just got an email back from the local office of my senator, Frank Lautenberg saying internships ARE avaiable to high school juniors over the summer. would this look just as good on an app as a summer program at a college? i think id rather be an intern and get some political experience, but if a summer program would look better i would consider it

anyone have an opinion on which would be better ^^^

you might want to think about rsi and mites too...6 week program at mit. rsi is supposedly one of theb est programs out there, it only accepts 30 juniors every year. you go there and you're basically a guaranteed admit to mit.

that might be too competitive for me to get into. Would interning for senator lautenberg be as good as a summer program or nto?
