Hello, I'm a currently a sophomore. I'm looking for the most impressive and reputable of summer programs that I could apply for to be a part during my upcoming summer. I'm open to anything from an unpaid internship, college programs, to volunteering abroad. My main interests for the programs include law, politics, humanitarian work, journalism, and writing. I would love to do anything involving those subjects. I want my summer to set me apart on college applications. Any ideas??

If you want to set yourself apart, read Cal Newport’s book: “How to be a High School Superstar: A Revolutionary Plan to Get Into College by Standing Out (Not Burning Out)”. This book explains why attending a prestigious summer program isn’t the only (or best) way to stand out on your college applications. Now is a good time for you to read it, as you have time to implement his ideas before you have college applications due.
