Best Summer Visiting Undergrad Summer Courses for Design or Marine Biology?

I realize these are not related topics. D is first year undergrad looking at summer programs for further career exploration or eventual masters study. Harvard career discovery in architecture is not an option due to start date. Anyone have experience with RISD summer while already in college? SciArc? UCLA? SAIC chicago? Parsons? I have no list for marine biology with a hands on approach. D is very willing to be very involved in studying. Prefer a 6 weeks or longer program.

Cornell and U of New Hampshire offer a summer marine bio program at Shoals Laboratory. I think the U of Miami also has a summer program.

University of North Carolina - Wilmington has a good marine biology program. They might have something for the summer: [UNCW College of Arts & Sciences: Biology and Marine Biology](Biology & Marine Biology | UNCW)

[Eckerd College | Welcome to Marine Science at Eckerd College](http://www.eckerd.edu/academics/marinescience/)

Check out Eckerd in Florida, see if anything is of interest. (Hot in summer!)

I do not believe that Eckerd has any summer programs.

Woods Hole has a summer fellowship opportunity:

Check out UC Santa Cruz. They are very big in Marine Biology.

Also at Woods Hole is the Marine Biology Lab (MBL), which is a diffrent organization from WHOI.

Many universities have summer study associated with their Marine Sciences departments. Search Dauphin Island, Friday Harbor (U of Washington), U of Rhode Island, the U of Massachusetts and others.

Western Washington University’s Shannon Point Marine Center has a great Research Experiences for Undergraduates (REU, funded by NSF) program. The program includes a $4300 stipend, a free room for the summer AND a travel allowance. Many students end up with publications as a result of their summer research project.

Here’s a pretty good listing of summer programs and internships in marine biology and related fields, courtesy of Columbia University:

great leads! D2 is investigating them- Any thoughts on Design, Art , or Architecture Summer programs while in college? D1 did Harvard 6 week Career Discovery one but the timing is wrong for D2 college term. Any one have experience with Parsons, SciArc, SAIC chicago, etc?

NOAA (Natl. Oceanic & Atmospheric Assoc.) has a mini-clearinghouse for undergraduate internships in the marines sciences.

Additionally, check out the University of Miami, they have a strong undergraduate Marine Sciences program as well as a respected design school. I don’t know what, if any, undergraduate summer programs they offer however.

hi everyone, I’ve been on CC since 2004 when my older D was applying to college and now I work in advising and student services for the Shoals Marine Lab at Cornell. We offer summer courses for high school students and college undergraduates, all of which bear credit from Cornell University. Each course is intense, hands-on, offers 3 credits for 2 weeks of work, and is taught on an island in Maine. We’re accepting online registrations now for summer 2011. We can offer scholarships and work assignments to defray cost. PM me or send an email for more information, or see [Shoals Marine Laboratory](http://www.sml.cornell.edu)!

I would highly recommend The Island School in the Bahamas.
