What is the best SUNY school to go to for business? I’ve been accepted to Albany, Buffalo, Stony Brook and was deferred from Binghamton.
It depends. My vote is Binghamton, Albany, Buffalo and then Stony Brook. Binghamton is the smallest school of the bunch and the most intense and competitive of the SUNY business schools, with the highest caliber of students so it will be more difficult to be at the top quarter percentile of the class as compared to the others. This could impact the number of interviews you are able to get for paid internships and jobs. If you are not intending to major in Accounting then I think their is less of an edge of Binghamton versus the others and less of an edge between Albany versus Buffalo and Stony Brook. IMO Stony Brook is more noted for the sciences and has more of a feel of a commuter campus, at least on weekends. Albany has a relatively new business school building and nice facilities. My recommendation is to visit each of these schools and see which school you feel most comfortable at. Also compare and contrast the academic program/courses you would be taking at Buffalo vs. Albany vs. Stony Brook. You don’t say whether you are interested in accounting versus management or some other area of business. You may find that one school offers more interesting and more variety of courses in your area of interest/intended major. That would be a good basis to choose one school over another. Also investigate the career center of each–ask what recruiters come to campus and what percentage of graduates are employed within 6 months of graduating with a undergrad business degree. Finally I usually like to refer to USNews for their rankings of undergrad business schools because it gives some sense of perception, but in this case I disagree with the ranking which has Buffalo at #78, Albany #100, Bing #128, Stony Brook not ranked.
Well, according to US News (a very reputable college ranking site), best SUNY business schools are as follows: Buffalo, Binghamton, and Albany (in order from best to worst), with the remaining SUNY schools not ranked.
Depending on what you want to study, one program may be better than another. For example: Buffalo has a higher CPA passing rate than Albany; one might conclude that Buff is better than Alb for accounting. However, all three SUNYs that are ranked will give you a great business education.
Thanks so much for the help, I want to study Business Administration and eventually move on to a focus of Marketing. I’ve visited Stony Brook, UB and Binghamton and UB or Bing is my favorite. I’m not sure if I’ll get into Bing though, because I still haven’t received an acceptance, while others have. From what I read, are you saying that it would be easier to be successful at UB more so than Bing, based on the intensity of the academics?
