I'm hoping to get the best education I can in journalism and am trying to pick the best SUNY for it. does anyone have an information on this?

stony brook has a new journalism department and everyone i know who has taken a class through it loves it. i know a bunch of people who are journalism majors and they’re really happy with their classes and what they’re learning.

Howard Schneider is the Dean of the school. He was a former managing editor and reporter for Newsday. From what I understand he is brilliant!

thank you both! i just filled out the all important envelopes to give my guidance counselor and am thinking about making a Stony Brook one now.

Definitely Stony Brook. I was lucky enough to take courses in their newsroom over the summer, and it truly is remarkable.

SUNY New Paltz has a really great journalism department.

I agree with LilyMoon. My friend is a journalism major here at New Paltz. She says it’s absolutely phenomenal and would highly recommend it to anyone considering journalism as a major.

Don’t know if this is always available, but my daughter took a journalism class taught by Pulitzer prize winner Sidney Schaumburg at New Paltz. I believe he does a class every few years there as an adjunct prof. She loved the class, even though she isn’t a journalism major.
