Best SUNY for Poly Sci?

Title says it all, which one would it be? Ultimately looking to pursue a career in politics/public administration so grad school placement in law and similar areas is important.

SUNY Stonybrook listed as #32 for poly sci grad schools- that does not necessarily mean their undergrad is as good but its a good sign. Not rated highly for social life on campus there though.

My friend is attending SUNY Binghamton for Poly Sci…pretty sure they have a good program

Bump?

Stony Brook

Buffalo, Binghamton, Stony Brook, and Albany. Albany has a 5 year degree granting law program.

Albany is an option since its located in the capital and you will have internship opportunities.

But if you are 100% dead set on law school, I would apply to a bunch of places (private schools too) and go to the cheapest one. Then focus on getting a really high GPA and a high LSAT score because this is what law school admissions are based on and they won’t care what suny you went to.

I’d say SUNY Albany probably. If you really want to go to Stony Brook you can, but from what I’ve heard it’s pretty miserable there and I personally wouldn’t want to go there. I live on Long Island and Stony Brook is a notorious commuter school around these parts.

I am from Long Island and originally lived in Stony Brook. It’s well known as a top notch research university and it’s strong in the social sciences. It’s also a bargain. Plenty of students come from other parts of NYS to live at SBU.

Albany is in the state capitol. University at Albany is still highly regarded and there would be excellent internship opportunities in that school.

They are both solid universities. Admission to SBU is more competitive, though.

Albany has the Rockefeller School of Public Affairs & Policy which is often highly regarded. I have met people who have graduated from that department and have been working in various law and political activism settings and they loved Albany for their undergrad and for their law school experience thereafter, if that is of any interest to you.
