Hi! I'm currently a junior and am beginning to think about which teachers to ask for recommendations and I can't decide whether to ask my honors english teacher or ap chemistry teacher for my second recommendation.
I'm taking the hardest possible junior course in both subjects and am doing well in both classes but I was wondering if I should ask my chemistry teacher so I have one humanities and one math/science recommendation. (I'm sure I'm going to ask my APUSH teacher)
HOWEVER although I'm sure my chemistry teacher likes me, she doesn't LOVE me so I'm not sure if the letter she'd write me would be strong.
On the other hand, my english teacher likes me very much even though she doesn't know me that well personally either.

On another note: how can I work on getting to know my teachers better? Genuinely, though... I'm not interested in schmoozing. I feel weird randomly popping in after school just to chat... it makes me feel like a nuisance?

You could just ask both and get 3 recs, lul. Then when you’re assigning the teachers you can just pick and choose your two, or if you prefer, put all 3. If not, ask Science teacher and write a good cheat sheet about yourself.

Whoever you ask, make sure that the teacher won’t just be listing adjectives like responsible, hard-working, willing to learn, etc. While those qualities are great traits to have, you will stand out more if the teacher writes an anecdote about a time that you displayed these traits. I wouldn’t worry about asking the teacher of the hardest course; just ask the ones who have seen you using the qualities that make the college feel they can’t possibly turn you away.

Even if you didn’t do well in a class, you can get a rec from a teacher who knows you on a deeper level. Although i’m not a math whiz, I’m getting a rec from my pre cal teacher because she knows me on a personal level as well as my English teacher

Some schools take up to 4 teacher recommendations, so having a bunch won’t hurt. Writing recs is part of a teacher’s job, so they are used to kids popping in after school, it’s not weird.
