Best theatre and film program?? Georgetown, Northwestern, Wesleyan??

Which school do you think has the best Theater and Film programs: Georgetown, Wesleyan, or Northwestern. The problem is i’ve fallen in LOVE with georgetown’s campus and location, but i know it probably has the weakest program of the three? However, i’m thinking that there would be more opportunities in DC than Middletown. Does anyone know what the general vibe is at all three of the schools? Are people friendly, preppy, cold??

I’m not sure what you mean by more opportunities in DC than Middletown. To attend professional productions off campus? Sure. Definitely more in DC. To be in plays or films? I’d get in touch with each of the relevant departments and ask about the number of productions each semester.

Full disclosure - I’m a Wes alum, although I wasn’t in either department, but it is the school I know the most about and I think it’s a great place. The film program at Wes is extremely well respected and if you have a long term goal of a career in film or television on either side of the camera, google “Wesleyan mafia.”

What is your interest? Performance? Tech? Design? Stage management? Directing? History of? Writing for?

That is what should inform your college list. Not being “in LOVE” with a particular campus/location.

Wesleyan is known for film and Northwestern is known for theater. Georgetown is known for foreign service and political science

Wesleyan is top notch for film and also quite strong in theater.

In terms of vibe: from what I can tell, Georgetown airs on the preppy side whereas Wesleyan is much more artsy and alternative. Northwestern is probably somewhere in between.

I think Georgetown is by far the weakest. I never heard anything about their performing arts.

I went to NU and know its theater is famous. But its film program is pretty big with various graduate programs.

I also heard Wesleyan is known for its film.

Getting into the job market in this industry is tough and even if you get out of USC, I doubt it’d be a breeze. The best you can do is to maximize the chance/luck you have by going to the best program you can get into. Luck like this one would come much more easily at NU or Wesleyan:

By any chance, has anyone heard of Tuft’s theater and film programs??

For film, Wesleyan and Northwestern would be excellent; for drama, Northwestern would be justifiably noteworthy (so, pretty much what others have offered).

My nephew was a film major at Wes and was very happy. But assuming they are all excellent at some point you should consider other factors such as your preferred location, size of school etc.
