We are embarking on the college search now. JMU is definitely on the list of schools to visit. I was wondering what current (and former) students like best about the school? We are in-state and keep hearing that people "love it"- just wondered if someone could elaborate? Thanks!

I’m a guy, so I may be biased:

-Party/social/greek scene.
-Athletics
-GUY-GIRL RATIO.
-Solid academics, business/nursing/teaching/music schools are top notch.
-They’re quickly rising to the “prestegious” category with tech and uva.
-The people are truly fantastic.

Cons:
-Harrisonburg blows.
-I wish it was a little bigger, but it’s definately not small.
-I81 cuts right down the middle of it, however it does make it seem larger.
-There’s a railroad that runs down the middle of it as well, which is a huge PITA when I’m running late for a class across campus and I have to wait 10 minutes for a train to go through.

Pros:
-Generally friendly atmosphere
-Always something to do on campus
-Always Parties
-Teachers are really great and classes aren’t that difficult
-The campus isn’t too big or small, about 17,000 students

Cons:
-Girl:Boy Ratio
-Harrisonburg is a really boring town, nothing to do off campus really
-Most people move off campus by Junior year to apartments
-Girls have a rep of being trashy and slutty
-Campus itself is huge - takes 30mins to get to some classes
