When is the best time to move in, really early or really late in the day (saturday or sunday) We were thinking of realllly early, but wondered if everyone else would be doing it then. This would be to Clark - Kerr

thanks

thanks

unless you have some preference for extremes, I’m rather partial to nice friendly times like the early afternoon :)

If you will be driving up here then I suggest really early because of #1 parking and #2 you get to spend the rest of the day with family exploring campus and San Francisco

When you say really early, that means really, really early, for you to have a good shot. Lots of students and parents who arrived the night before, who are on foreign time zones and awake at wee hours of the morning, who stake out a spot on the line. If you arrive an hour before movein starts, you will find a long line of students waiting to check in, probably with parents or friends guarding a pile of boxes somewhere nearby.

The downside of arriving later in the day is that the chances that all roommates have already arrived is high. You may find the room clogged with boxes as they are still unpacking. You may find, if you don’t get a fair roommate, that the better beds, desks etc are claimed.

On the other hand, the lines are lowest in the afternoon, the elevators least jammed and the carts easy to find.

really early if you have a triple because there’s 4 closets and 3 people.

and try to get the bottom bunk because whoever has the bottom bunk seems to own the room more than others

You mean 2 closets?

Also, if you get the bottom bunk you can put a blanket around it and make a little tent, haha.

How about mini suites?

I lived in Christian Mini Suite first year. The room was so big compared to other dorms that you could literally take down the bunk bed and put 3 beds on the floor in the same room. If you got a mini suite offer, then you should not worry too much.

No way I’m gonna try to get there early in the morning because I’ve got an 1.5 long drive and I really don’t feel like leaving at 4am. I guess I’ll try to be there around 11-2

If you live near Berkeley, I suggest as early as possible, so you can dump your clothes, etc. and then go with your parents to Target, Costco, or IKEA or get the stuff you need. (Because you don’t know what’s in your room until you see it.)

If you live close to Berkeley, I’d actually suggest not coming up as early as possible, because that is what everyone else will be doing and the traffic will be terrible, and since you live close to Berkeley, you can explore the East Bay/the city with your parents anytime. You won’t save that much time by trying to arrive by 10AM or whenever move-in time starts, and later in the day, the lines will be much shorter and the elevators much less crowded.
(I’d also like to add: To speed things up, try not to use the elevator on Move-In Day if you’re going to be living on the 1st-3rd floors of the Units, and ESPECIALLY if you’re not carrying any boxes or anything, no matter what floor you’re on. People who are living on the top floors will be ****ed if they’re trying to transport bulky, heavy carts upstairs but the elevator is constantly full with people who are going to the lower floors or people who aren’t even carrying anything.)

If you live in a double, it doesn’t really matter what side of the room you get. If you live in a triple, you can either try to arrange with your roommates beforehand who’ll get which bed or use first-come, first-serve if you guys can’t work it out amongst yourselves.

I believe most Clark Kerr rooms have 4 closets and that there’s enough floorspace to have 3 single beds (just take apart one of the bunks). If you’re really picky about where you might be in the room (close to the window, close to the closets) then you will want to get there early to pick. If you don’t really mind, then it doesn’t matter what time of the day you show up.

Clark Kerr doesn’t have as many people moving in as the units. I got there early and waited in line. They didn’t start letting people sign in until 9AM or something. There never seemed to be too many people walking around and moving stuff at once especially since CK is very open.

unit 3 has 4 tiny closets… so yeah pretty unfair in a triple because one person gets 2

Unit 3 does have 4 closets/cupboard/cabinets or whatever you want to call them. They’re open with a pole for hooks and then 1 of the 2 has a set of drawers in them.

what about in unit 2?

^I only know of unit 3 from CalSO, but I would think that all the units have the same setup like that

bump for more info about moving in for triples.

I don’t think Unit 1 and 2 are like Unit 3. I remember my room at Calso in unit 3 having closets that were separate from the walls, and some shelves. Units 1/2 have closets that are built into the wall and some extra dressers. CK in addition to built in closets (that happen to look like gym lockers) has some dressers and small shelves.

does anybody have any info on a suite double in foothill?

thanks for info. I think my S will try for as early as possible as this is one big adventure to him, and he can hardly wait to get started!
