Best time to apply for admission

I plan to apply to Michigan State University as Class of 2010. I would like to know what's the best time to apply once I complete my junior year? This is my top choice school and have long wanted to attend it.
As a junior I currently have a 3.7 overall ( including freshmen-sophomore year.)
Was part of the science club 9-10 grade... school no longer has the club since majority of the students were seniors.
Was invited to the National Honors Society, and may get accepted... sended application already.
Got a mathematics award 9th grade, along with honors award.
Currenty taking 2 Ap classes, along with honors and pre-calculus.
12th grade plan to take 3-4 ap classes.
With a few things I've listed what do you think my chances of getting into Michigan State University, and how should I score on ACT ( I'm also a life long resident of Michigan.)
When do you think the best time for me to apply to Michigan State University ( my top choice school.)
What do you think of Brody, Holmes, Hubbard, and Holden?
Any extra information would be nice.

Score the best you can on the ACT. You have a chance of getting the Michigan Competitive Scholarship if you do well on the ACT. I don’t know the cut off score but I know a 28 ACT will do it. I think, but am not sure, that a 25 will do it.
My son is in Holmes (Lyman Briggs) and he likes having most of his classes in the same building. A lot of the people there are into playing video games. There are lots of people to ask questions about schoolwork and you are close to the Wharton Center where you can see shows and concerts. They have a piano room, a weight room, a laundry room and are renovating their little store into a coffee lounge type place. They do group trips to fun stuff. The classes are all geared towards science, even the writing classes. Lyman Briggs has their own list of classes you have to take to graduate from there but there is still room to take outside classes too. There are lots of jobs for students including working in the cafeteria, lab work, and tutoring. The food is pretty good. I go there and have a meal with my son once in awhile.

The applications come out around late August to the beginning of September for applying.

If I get accepted into Michigan State University I would like to major in a science most likely Biology and take the pre-med courses ( plan to become a doctor). I think Lyman Briggs is the college of my major, and if that is so then Holmes is no longer a option for me. Due to the fact that I like to walk from one place to another… I probably would limit my hall options to Holden, Hubbard, and Brody. You also mention alot of people in Holmes are into playing video games… well I’m not into playing video games but I spend alot of time on the computer which I will not do/ nor want to do in college. So another reason why I shouldn’t choose Holmes.
-Thanks
Any other information you would like to add or apply to is appreciated.

If you’re Lyman Briggs, you HAVE to live in holmes…it’s a residential college…

Oh so Lyman Briggs isnt the college of science, just residential? You mean to tell me if you choose to major in science ( like biology with pre-med courses ) you have to stay in Holmes?

no, it’s not the college of science. it’s a residential college program for people who are majoring in science type fields [lotttts of pre-vets/pre-meds opt for lyman briggs]. you live in holmes and have your classes in holmes.

you can major in whatever you want…science, biology, pre-med, etc…you don’t have to be in lyman briggs. but if you WANT that type of live-in environment, then you choose to be in lyman briggs as your major on the application, and once you’re in, they’ll help you figure out what to ACTUALLY major in.

[Lyman Briggs College - Frequently Asked Questions](<a href=“Lyman Briggs College | Michigan State University”>Lyman Briggs College | Michigan State University)

Thanks, well I would like to major in pre-med but I heard you don’t get a degree for it.
I also do not like that type of live in environment where you never have to leave your hall because your classes are in it… it’s not the movement of walking from one place on campus to another.

Do you know where the majority of my classes would be if I got accepted into MSU and majored in pre-med? Would they be located in holmes?

Heard Hubbard is sorta horrible, Holden is getting a new look and is okay, but if your a freshmen Brody is probably better.

yeah, pre-professional programs aren’t degree-granting majors. but you can still select it as your “major” until you become a junior, when you’ll have to switch to like, biology or something. i’m pre-vet right now, but next semester i’ll have to switch over to zoology for official purposes.

also, lyman briggs students have their lyman briggs classes [so like, math and science type classes] in holmes…but their other classes [like social sciences, writing, other electives, etc] are spread out through the rest of campus…they still do leave their dorms, they just have the luxury of some of their classes being in the same hall they live in.

your classes are spread out all over campus, there’s no real guarantee where any of them will be. but chances are that unless you’re in lyman briggs you won’t have any in holmes.

brody is only “better” for freshmen in the sense that it’s ALL freshmen. a lot of people call it the brojects because it’s so far from everything, and it has community bathrooms. brody complex, love it or hate it… lots like it but lots more hate it.

You do not have to be in Lyman Briggs to major in the College of Science. You can go through the regular MSU classes and be pre-med. You can live where you want. It is just that Lyman Briggs is a college in the big University that really concentrates on the sciences.

I think you will find video game playing all over campus. I heard it is quite common on a lot of campuses.

Coolbrezze, you don’t want to use a computer??? That is a BIG line of communication at MSU. Assignments, messages, getting together for study groups. My son turns his computer on even when he is home on weekends because of important info he gets.

No ofcourse I would want to use a computer. Just that on my freetime I wouldn’t want to spend the majority of it playing videogames or being on the computer… that’s all.
Thanks for the comments everyone
Much more information is welcome

If you have about a 24 or higher on your ACT there is a real good chance of getting into State. Apply in September or October of your Senior year. Earlier the better

Do you know where the majority of my classes would be if I got accepted into MSU and majored in pre-med? Would they be located in holmes?
They would not be located in holmes for the most part (unless you are in lyman briggs), most of the science classes are in the natural science, chemistry, biochemistry, and biomedical/physical sciences buildings (among others). All of these buildings are a good walk from Hubbard, brody, and Holden. If I were you, I’d DEFINITELY get on south complex (holden is a great option). Brody has a zillion freshmen, but on other dorm complexes you can meet more upperclassmen and can avoid community bathrooms.

Yeah one thing that may keep me from Brody is the community bathrooms. Also you mention if I got accepted and stayed in other dorm complexes I would meet more upperclassmen. Although what would be better, meeting upperclassmen or actually freshmens like you… probably a easy choice.
