When's the best time to apply for summer part time jobs? (I'm a graduating high school senior and I want to get a job before the college students)

Any tips on resume, etc?

For this summer?

You’re already a little late. The best time to start looking for jobs is January and February if you want to work at a summer camp. March and April (read: start NOW) are great for other jobs, but typically late April and May are late. Not necessarily too late, but definitely late to get into the game.

Yeah, start NOW. Don’t do what I did and wait until after AP tests.

Apply in person if possible–try to talk to the manager yourself.

If you don’t have any job experience, talk about major ECs/volunteer work.

Little-known fact: “Help Wanted” signs are not always accurate. I found that a lot of places displayed signs but weren’t hiring, while many were hiring but didn’t have any sort of sign.

Don’t feel like you are above any job. It’s extremely difficult to find ANY job right now.

Fast food joints are pretty good for the summer. I would try to snatch one up. Especially if it’s only for the summer.

I’m literally have a stack of resumes next to my computer as I am typing this. I don’t think I’ll even bother with resumes that come in from a week from now.

So yes, the sooner or better.

Yeah, you’re kind of late. I applied in March and already have two jobs. And this was in a huge tourist area, where they mainly hire for the summer anyway, and one is as a lifeguard (people always need lifeguards. Easiest job ever to get.) I would say try to find jobs that are clearly seasonal, and really undesirable, as they will have fewer people. Next year, apply in Feb/March, you’ll have better luck.

Does this apply for lifeguards, too? I’m in the process of getting my certification now, so I’ll be ready to go June 1st. Should I start applying even though I’m not technically certified?
