My junior D wants to take the SAT I's in March to get them over with (although she knows she will have to take them again next fall).

Is it generally better to take them in March, or better to wait a little longer, and take them in May, when she'll have another couple of months of schooling?

Wait...I mean I think you'd be wasting money, and I think she'd be more knowledgable as a senior...then again that is my opinion, but do whatever you want! :-)

I say take it. I was able to get decent scores my junior year so there wasn't as much pressure to perform this year. I know I don't work well under pressure. Because I already had scores I was happy with, so I went into the December test compleatly calm. My score went up 160 points. I think the less pressure the better.

D should take it the first time when she is best prepared. Unless Einstein material, not much use to pay the money, burn 3.5 hours of a beautiful Saturday morning, and take the test cold. How did the PSAT's come out? If they were the type of scores you are comfortable with, then, it might make sense to take the March administration. If the scores were much lower than expected (or "needed" for the colleges D is considering), then prepping prior to taking SAT1 would make more sense, IMO.

I say take it as well...good practice and, if the score is good, no pressure to retake..S (who usually performs well on standardized tests) took it Dec 2003 - got a solid score which was "good enough" for the schools he was thinking about...took it again in Dec 2004 - 100 pt increase w/ no additional prep...I think having no pressure helped...also many schools take your highest scores...so she really has nothing to lose (except the fee!) I don't think the two months between March and May will matter since she is planning on taking them in the fall any way....
