i posted a thread on here recently about wanting to transfer to ucsc, and environment-wise, it's my favorite so far (that i've visited). however, does anyone know what uc is best for a future journalist? afaik, no uc's offer a journalism major. so would going to ucb and majoring in english (and getting on the newspaper there) be the very best thing i could do as a wannabe reporter? thanks for any advice!

UCLA for sure. The Daily Bruin is very renowned and a lot of people from that np get internships at Vogue, LA times etc.

ucla fa sho

I’m pretty sure that the op is trying to transfer out of UCLA.

Anyway, Berkeley has a journalism school, so yes, I think your best option would be to transfer to Berkeley and major in English if you really dislike UCLA.

Also check out UC Irvine. They do not have a school of journalism, but they have a really strong English program.

Edit: UCI has a Literary Journalism degree you might want to check out: http://www.humanities.uci.edu/litjourn/

I agree with ^.
Try Berkeley. You will still get your hipster/liberal vibe and prestige while attending there. It might be tough to transfer there though, coming from UCLA. Maybe go to CC, then apply for Berkeley?

A few options…

1) Go to a school with a big name (UCB, UCLA) and major in Poli Sci or similar.

2) Go to UCLA and major in Communication

3) You could also go to UCB for Media Studies, UCSD and UCSB also have good Communication programs

4) Major in English

In the end, it’s going to be more about your networking skills, internships, etc
