I am conflicted between several UC campuses in SoCal because I can’t seem to figure out which city or area is more welcoming of my major. My intentions are to find internships relating to my major and the stock market. I also want to consider job opportunities after completing a BA or MS. I am deciding between UCI, UCLA, and UCSD - possibly UCB. Since I don’t live anywhere near those campuses or their respective cities, I do not have the slightest idea what kind of opportunities those cities offer and would like some feedback from anyone living in those areas or attending those UCs.
I am a transfer student and will most likely use my degree relating to the economic market.
Thanks!
Probably LA because it is a much larger city. Berkeley if you want to work in SF. The job market is bustling in NorCal.
I chose UCI over UCB and UCSD, didn’t apply to UCLA. No regrets, really liking the curriculum here.
Really? What are your deciding factors to choose UCI over the other UCs?
I chose UCB over UCLA, UCSB, and UCSD. I’m from socal and really wanted a change of scenery, and the semester system sounded much more appealing than the quarter system.
UCSC and UCSD have a greater math emphasis (multivariable calculus) in their economics majors, while UCB and UCI have the option of greater math emphasis (multivariable calculus) or lesser math emphasis (single variable calculus) in their economics majors, if that matters to you.
@xprophetyan Really liked the campus, interesting electives for economics available, better financial aid.
San Francisco is more about the financial and technology industry. LA is more about the entertainment and media industry. Is this really even a question?
My vote is for UCB hands down. Just look at their job placement. You can get into ibanking and consulting from UCB. I would say that is pretty rare at the other UC’s.

The hard part is getting into them.
When the time times, apply broadly and be sure to TAG one. Then make your selection from those that accept you. It will be an easier call then.
Good luck.
