My son is a freshman and has a great interest in the law. He's currently in communications--right now he's thinking about a career as an entertainment lawyer. Does anyone have suggestions for an undergrad major? Thanks!

Philosophy majors do particuarly well on the LSATS, but any major can apply to law schoo. History, English, Classics, Political Science, Economics, Philosophy, etc. are all common majors, but you could also do Math or Biology or Engineering or Business. He should do whatever he likes and will do well in because applying to law school is heavily based on GPA.

It's interesting (although I posted so long ago), my son decided to major in mass communication and minor in philosophy. He has been doing research and discovered that both majors are the highest acceptance rates at law schools. Both are his interest and strength as well.

Any major that is reading & writing intensive is fine for law school.

IMO philosophy is terrific preparation for the kind of close, critical reading of texts and analysis of arguments that are the stick-in-trade of the law school curriculum. Classics majors also do very well, for similar reasons. My guess is poli sci and econ majors make up the largest group of law students, but other popular humanities and social sciences majors like English and history are also well represented.
