Best undergrad major for law school?

What is the best undergrad major for law school?

Also, I'm majoring in Criminology, law, & Society. As a result, I was wondering if this would be a good major prior to law school? I will be attending UC Irvine. Here is the link:

Criminology, Law and Society

Any advice?

I will give you several answers depending on your perspective. As for admission to law school, read over the thread,“What I learned about law school admission.” It notes that your major is irrelavent. It is only the GPA and LSAt that counts. Again, the major is irrelavent.

As for doing well on the LSAT, certain majors seem to score better on the average. The top performing majors are Math, hard sciences, English and other reading intensive majors especially Philosophy. Generally, Criminology majors don’t do as well. Yes, there are exceptions, but this is what the LSAT averages show.

Major doesn’t matter, with one exception: You will get penalized for majors like “Criminal Justice.”

If I had a dollar for every time I’ve heard/seen this question asked. ;)

But here, at UC Irvine, Criminology is not the same as criminal justice. Basically, the criminology program is like sociology. Click on the link, on the first post, to look at the program. Here are the classes: [UCI Catalogue: Dept. of Criminology, Law and So](<a href=“UCI General Catalogue Archives”>UCI General Catalogue Archives)

I just don’t know if following this criminology major would be a wise choice towards my road to law school.

I understand that the major is irrelevant, but I want to hear people’s opinion on my major.

It still sounds like a vocational major (and anyway I’m not convinced).

Just do History or Poli sci. They are both generally BS like the UC-Irvine criminology program, but if you do one of those two you’ll be able to practice your reading and writing skills. You’d be able to do the same with the criminology program, but that is more akin to sociology and is not as intellectually rigorous.

If you actually want to get a decent non-law job instead of law school, do accounting, econ or engineering. You may end up wanting to work following graduation from Irvine, and a UC-Irvine criminology, history or poli sci degree probably won’t get you a decent job upon graduation (except as a cop).

But, I’m going in as a transfer student; therefore, it would be extremely hard to change major. I can change it to psychology & social behavior for sure. But, I have no idea how hard it would be to switch to other majors.

FWIW my undergrad is Criminology, and i personally feel that it did not matter. I am sure that there are other better majors, but when it came down to it, i felt much better having the 3.92 when applying than having a lower GPA in a different major.

With all of this being said, i was rejected by schools that i should have been at the very least wait listed, of course i am a horrible writer and my essay might have been a deciding factor.

Is a PoliSci major that much of a joke in Law School Admissions?
