Best Undergraduate Chinese and Arabic Programs?

Hi, I am currently a high school senior with intentions to study Arabic or/and (if possible :P) Chinese, possibly major. However, I know the top programs for this are the repeat offenders: Harvard, Yale, Princeton, Ivy, Ivy, Ivy... And I know I have no chance at those schools so there's no point in listing them. So, I guess the gist of my question is what are some colleges with excellent programs in either of those languages? If this helps my GPA is Unweighted 3.5, Weighted 3.667 and my SAT I: 600 writing, 620 math, 670 reading.

The University of Mississippi has an excellent Chinese program and international relations department. It also offers Arabic, but I’m not sure how strong the program is. It is in Mississippi, but if you want a relatively cheap school where you can be sure to get in, you might want to consider Ole Miss.

Also, you might want to try applying for the honors program (deadline: Jan 15). I’m not sure if you’d get in, but it’s worth a shot.

Here are some other schools (matches and safeties) which offer Arabic and Chinese. I have no idea how strong the programs are, but if you do end up majoring or double majoring in the two languages you should expect to spend at least a semester abroad. Check to see how often the Chinese courses are offered. Depending on your level of proficiency, some of these programs may not offer enough courses to keep you satisfied. Additionally, many of these schools may be unaffordable, since you didn’t say how much your family will pay.

-Arizona State University
-University of Arizona
-University of Arkansas
-University of Delaware
-University of Georgia
-Purdue University
-IU Bloomington
-University of Iowa
-University of Kansas
-LSU
-Michigan State University
-Bard College
-Oxford College of Emory (not recommended if you have a high degree of proficiency)

Anyways, there are others, but I’m getting tired. Cross check this list of Chinese programs: http://www.csulb.edu/~txie/programs.htm</a> with a google of University’s Name Arabic to see the arabic offerings. I left off just before the State University of Albany

Additionally here are the Language Flagship Programs for Arabic: http://www.thelanguageflagship.org/arabic</a> and Chinese: http://www.thelanguageflagship.org/chinese</a> If a university has a Language Flagship program, it will have an outstanding program in that language
