Best Universities for Economics

Does anyone know / have a list of the top undergraduate economics programs?

So far I am looking at UMichigan, NYU and Chicago.

Thanks!

Columbia has been making great strides in Econ with multiple Nobelists in recent years.

sadiqhassan,

Those are good choices. Also consider Harvard, Princeton, Yale, Columbia, Berkeley, Stanford, and maybe UCSD or UCLA. Duke, MIT (if you can deal with their GE requirements), and Penn are also good.

Take a look at Northwestern University.

I second Northwestern. :)

http://www.northwestern.edu/newscenter/stories/2005/12/challenge.html

Thanks for the replies. Ill definately consider Northwestern. Ivy League seems a bit of a reach since my SATs are only 2110.

Thanks again,

UChicago.. that school is SO cool.. plus it has an awesome econ program.. :)

I would apply and I'd love to go.. but it doesn't have my major.. lol

If you are an international, you may be able to try LSE, but like the other schools on this thread it is difficult to gain acceptance.

LSE is my current first choice. :) I want to keep my options open though (as LSE can be rather unpredictable with offers / acceptances) so I am also looking at US schools.

2110 is not an "only" when it comes to Ivies. Breaking an average of 700 on each section puts you in the majority of Ivy league students; there are indeed students with lower than this (perhaps ~30%, depending on the school). Consider your extracurriculars, performance in school, and any leadership positions you have - do you possibly have what it takes to attend a top institution? Don't rule them out based on your SAT score. If you have great personal qualities and a sincere drive to learn, think about it =]

My critical reading score is 620 :( I have 790 on Math and 700 on Writing so it balances out to a 700 average. My university counseller said that my CR score is below the 10% percentile for all ivies, save cornell.

I agree with the UCLA/UCSD recommendation.

UChicago has a brilliant Econ program. I don't have time to look up the exact statistics about this, but I think they have the most Nobel Laureates in Econ of any university in the nation, by a pretty wide margin.

UChicago has the most Nobel laureates, period, of any school in the US (I believe Cambridge, counting all of the colleges, beats it worldwide). it's known as the place for conservative economists of the Milton Friedman variety.

anyway, I would consider it the best school in the US for undergrad economics (I'm generally biased against Ivies in general, though, for undergraduate education).
