Is Hong Kong U really better than Beijing and Qinghua? According to all the relatives back in the motherland, Beijing and Qinghua are the best by far...and as for HKU, I've never really heard of it... but I could be wrong

I'm from Sweden.

Medicine: The Karolinska Institute
Economics: Stockholm School of Economics
Engineering: The Royal Institute of Technology
Others: Uppsala University, Lund University

In Canada:

University of Toronto
UBC
McGill
(but these may be rearranged depending on specific subjects)

Economics: University of Toronto is the best, then UBC, followed by many lesser-known Canadian schools. McGill is for some reason down at like 12th or 13th in Canada in economics.

In the Netherlands:

Erasmus University Rotterdam, University of Amsterdam

University of Utrecht, University of Leiden, University of Groningen

Economics: Tilburg University is the top school, followed by the University of Amsterdam.

Ditto. Beijing and Qinghua are by far the best regarded in China.

okay in singapore we have ALOT of choices (not)

in no order of merit. that's because we have a grand total of 3 universities, the fourth being UniSIM which is something like two years old and is opened to virtually anyone who can pay the school fees.

Really? I thought university of Rotterdam was the best for economics and business and university of Tilburg for management but I guess all those disciplines are similar in a way.

Australia:
Sydney Uni
Melbourne Uni
Monash Uni
University of New South Wales (UNSW)

those are probably the most well known/prestigeous in Sydney and melbourne. But not nessesarilly the best (depends what you study). My patents both teach at Univerisities (Monash Uni, for my mother and Woolongong Uni for my Dad) nad i know that woolongong has lots of international students, who like it becuase it is a smallish city with great beaches etc.

Mexico (Yay for Mexico!!):
National Autonomous University of Mexico
Monterrey Institute of Technology and Higher Studies
Universidad Autónoma de Guadalajara

Rotterdam is definitely the best for business/management, but I think that's largely attributable to the graduate-level RSM programs. (MBA, EMBA, etc.) I think we can agree that the Rotterdam School of Management is the only business school in the Netherlands with substantial international recognition.

But of course economics something very different from business. Just like math is not the same as physics. Of course they are related, but they are still completely separate disciplines.

Hey Claudia, wouldn't Australian National University be atop the Aussie list? I thought that was supposed to be the top school Australia...(?)

Here in Canada it would be UofT and McGill

Philippines:

1) Ateneo DE Manila University
2) University of the Philippines.

would love someone to chime in from Italy.....

I would say these colleges are the most well-known. In the end, it really depends on what you want to major in.

nauru-
ANU is a great University, but, it has a few downsides, including its location (Canberra, it may be the capital but is VERY boring). It has great programs as well, but i think the thing is different Uni's are good at certain things. For example, you would prefer to do a Vetrinarian Degree at UNSW rather than Sydney Uni. Or, a Law degree at Melbourne as opposed to RMIT. But, really they are all good.
Another thought, on the streets, ANU isn's as well known as some of the others. Anyway, i hoped that answered the Question!

Egypt:

AUC: American University in Cairo
GUC: German University in Cairo
FUC: French University in Cairo
BUE: British University of Egypt
CU: Cairo University
AU: Alexandria University (where I'll be going unfortunately)

@ Schlaraffenland:
You know that there are three very good universities in Munich (LMU, TUM, UBw)? Which one did you refer to?
