Best values in public colleges list by kiplingers. Did they get it right?

What aspect of their ranking interests you? The cost comparisons?
For that, Your Mileage May Vary … significantly … depending on what state you live in, your income bracket, etc. State colleges typically don’t give very good financial aid to out-of-state students.
So, in many cases your “best value” would be your own state flagship (or perhaps a private school after need-based aid). There may not even be much point in considering OOS publics.

For some scenarios, click-sorting on column 2 will give more appropriate results than the default sort order (column 1). For other scenarios, click-sorting on another column will be better. You decide. This is a nice feature of the Kiplinger rankings. But there are so many possible ways to use this information that it’s hard to make a blanket statement about whether they got it right. Does Truman State really deserve a higher “out of state” rank than Michigan, Berkeley, or NM Tech? Well, maybe. It depends on whether the ranking criteria and weights work for you.

Looking at in state NC schools. Happy to see they are well represented

@ironcity50 I go to one of those schools as an OOS student. Seeing my school on there only serves to give my choice further validation that’s probably not even needed
