I'm not sure what else there is to do to be prepared physically than to... prepare physically.

To give you an idea, on the cadet physical fitness test you'll take, 21 is the max number of pullups for a guy, 72 pushups, 95 situps/crunches, a jump of over 8 feet, and a 600 run in just over a minute and a half or so. You won't be expected to get all of those, but aim for those and you'll be well prepared. Pushups are easy to improve, just make sure you are doing them with a good technique. As far as running goes, make sure you're doing it in boots before you get here. You do NOT want to have to deal with blisters on top of everything else.

man! I'm really short like 5'2". I keep jumping 5'5"s. Do you know any techniques to improve my jump?

Arm swing is really important. Having the right spacing between your feet is really important too (about shoulder-width or a little wider). Also, try looking up when you jump instead of looking ahead and down at the ground in front of you.

I'm 5'3 and jump 6'10 (which is decent for a girl - 7'2 is the max).

I know what helped me get better at long jump was lean back until you feel like you're going to fall over with your arms forward, then roll forward and jump while bringing your arms back and jumping forward. I know changing technique improved my score by about 9 inches

Oops, I posted this question on the wrong thread:
I have another question about physical training during BCT. I haven't done as much running in my boots as I have steep hikes with a heavy pack on in boots. Is there a substantial amount of weighted hiking during basic? The last couple weeks before basic, I'll be in Yosemite, hiking and climbing at altitude, and I was wondering if I should be more focused on logging in some runs. I run almost everyday as is, just a thought. Thanks ~ Jess

I answered in the other thread.

With the exception of a bit of technique for the jump, the best way to improve pushups, pullups, situps and run, is to actually do just that...pushups, pullups, situps and run.

Just make sure you practice them correctly (i.e. locking out your arms at the botoom of pullups and breaking the 90 degree plane when you go down for pushups). It won't matter how many exercises you can do in bad form as none of them will count.
