Best Way to Apply??????

Im an average student (class of 2010) and I will be applying to a few big ten schools and a couple of minor state schools this fall and I was wondering the best way to apply to get in.

Desired Major; Mechanical Engineering

Stats
3.8 UW Gpa
3.9 W Gpa
taken all aps offered (2) and the only honors track for english
ACT 23
SAT 1700ish (will be taking in June)
should have decent recs (Physics teacher, Biology teacher, calc/precalc/geom. teacher)
EC's; 4 year varsity letterman golf, 4 years of baseball (2 varsity), JETS, Academic Team, Muse Machine, NHS, 70+ hours of comm service, have more but im prolly boring you

I plan on applying to

Purdue (legacy)
Ohio State
Miami
Ohio
Penn State
U of Cincinnati
U of M
UIUC

How do I apply to get the best chance at admission?
Do I apply EA or RD (Dont want to make the commitment of ED)?
Why cant I apply EA to all schools?
I plan on asking for recs this year but request them ready for beginning of next year (school starts august 24)
Is it ok if I apply last week of august (too early/too late)?
Which school have rolling admission? does that mean I have to apply really early to even have a shot?

I have so many questions, sorry, Im just trying to get the best education possible

Chance me if you wish, dont care if you dont

Thank you very much

It’s hard to believe a 3.8UW is an average student, but your standardized test scores definitely are your weak point. You’ll be strongest in Ohio schools since you’re in state (I am well aware of the Muse Machine) as well as Purdue. The best thing you can do is put in some time studying for the ACT or SAT, whichever you feel more comfortable with.

thanks for the advice

Now my questions are whats the best combination (from an admission standpoint) to apply. Should I apply early action in august, or regular decision in august? Is there an advantage of early action or is it just better to apply regular decision? Is mid september too late?

It seems to me like early action is the best way to go (but I really dont know). Why cant I apply early action to all my schools if it is non-binding?

Any info will help thanx

What are the deadlines for the schools. Applying August seems very early if the deadlines are in October/November (most EA/ED) or December/Jan (most RD). You don’t want to rush you’re applications.
