I’m curious how you all approach the short take sections of applications. Obviously there is a very small amount of space to convey questions that can seem like an essay prompt! For example, Yale asks, “How will you contribute to the dynamic of your suite?” in 50 characters or less. I’m a little stuck on these types of questions. Any thoughts?
Don’t think about them too long, I implore. It should be what comes to mind first to describe you. You don’t have to be profound or anything (imho), just be yourself. I mostly did light, funny answers because, well, I thought they described me well (who knows if the admissions people actually found them funny or not), but all in all it is just a dynamic way to let the admissions counselors see your personality more. Just ask yourself honestly–what will you contribute to the suite? Any answer will do as long it describes you!
Pick one trait and go with it. Don’t try to squeeze too much into the short essays – better to have one coherent thought than a bunch of bits and pieces.

I know people who have responded to questions like this with lists, and others who have just come up with one short snappy answer. There’s no one right way to approach this.
This is a chance to be creative, have a bit of fun, demonstrate a sense of humor, highlight an off-beat talent or favorite possession. This isn’t the place to take yourself too seriously.
