Best way to become Mutual/hedge fund manager

I am still a freshman at TCU but I am wondering what steps should be taken to become hedge fund or mutual fund manager? I want to get into work involving making investment decisions but there are just so many routes I dont want to end up doing the math and grunt work for some one the rest of my life. Any suggestions on what kind of graduate degrees? What jobs, some place like Goldman or IMF or small Firms?
By the way i am an Econ major minoring in mathematics

For a mutual fund manager you could work for an asset management co and work your way up the ranks. For HF you should probably start out in IB, ER, or trading, then move into an HF.
