Looking for suggestions on how to help my son find a roommate for freshman year. He has joined the admitted students Facebook page.

Thats a start. Also he may find someone he connects with at orientation. My son is jut going random as of now. He applied to Wall so that limits his choices.

My D found her roommate for this past year from the FB page and it was a successful year for them - both seemed fine in a pig sty. hehehe

My son went random. It was not the best situation. But I also know of many kids who carefully chose their freshman room mate that did not work out either as well. You just never know. I would say that a good method is to find a friend of a friend - someone who knows both of the kids and thinks that they would get along. There is always someone who knows someone (through camp, a cousin, a team mate etc). They do not have to become best friends (although that would be nice); they just need to get along. Meet ups (for example in NYC) are a good way to meet people too…Of course, back in the old days, we all went “random” and my roomie and I (although vastly different from each other) got along great.

It’s pretty much a crap shoot either way. You never really know someone until you live with them!
