Best way to get admitted to UCLA's film school and thoughts on UCSC's film program

I had an epiphany about a week ago and realized I want to be a director. i love film, art and it encompasses everything I love. After doing research, I have I decided UCLA’s my dream school and I realize how difficult it is to get in. The problem is right now I am a high school senior who has committed to UCSC (which I love, but it seems a little too slow paced) and am on the waitlist for UCSB. I applied to both as an art history major. I’ve heard mixed reviews on UCSC’s film program.

My Questions are: What is the best way to get into UCLA’s film school? Do i have better chances if I go to a community college then transfer? Is taking a gap year then applying a good idea? My gpa is a 4.2 but, it will probably go down because my grades are not that great this semester. Does anyone have any experience with or opinions about the UCSC film department?
