For orientation I'm going to fly up to the Detroit airport and I was wondering what the best way was to travel from the airport to campus?

Visitor information is really burried on the UMich website...

Getting to Ann Arbor
The Ann Arbor campus is very lucky to be placed in close proximity to the Detroit Metropolitan Airport, a Greyhound Bus Terminal as well as an Amtrak Station.

Detroit Metropolitan International Airport is only 20 miles from Ann Arbor, about a 45 minute drive (at the most). Remember though, the airlines suggest arriving at least 2 hours before your flight! Major hubs are: Northwest, Delta, and US Air among others (for more information, call 734/AIR-PORT).

The cheapest way to travel back and forth from the airport is to use MSA's airBus service. They pick up in 3 locations around campus and you can pay by cash, check, or charge it to your student account. Tickets are sold at MUTO, the Michigan Union Ticket Office. A reserved seat is $8 one-way or $13 round-trip. Non-reserved seats are sold on a first come, first serve basis and cost $10 each way. Note that this shuttle only runs prior to scheduled UM school breaks.

For shuttle options, the Ann Arbor Convention Visitor's Bureau maintains a listing.

custom transit
$22 one way, $40 two way
you have to call the night before you arrive before 8:00PM or they charge you $5 extra

If money is not an issue ($50-$60), take a cab. It will take you straight to wherever you are staying so you do not have to worry about dragging your luggage all over the place. It is a 20 mile, 25-35 minute drive, so it is not that bad. Of course, if you are coming with your parents, renting a car for a few days is worth it.

I say a cab is an okay deal like Alexandre said. Plus, it's not like you will be leaving/coming back that many times per year anyway.

Does anyone know how to get on a shuttle?
