Hello, I’m a senior in high school whose going needs to go to Community College first before applying to the UCs and my dream school is UCLA and I would love to be able to go there (for a multitude of reasons) and major in CSE (Computer Science Engineering) and Economics (if I could do that too). I’ve been doing tons of research and I’m just trying to find the best way into UCLA like for example which community college to go to (My choices are Foothill or De Anza although I’m willing to go somewhere else if needed), which special programs to enroll in, and anything else that will help ensure I get into UCLA. Also regardless of the school I plan on enrolling in the guaranteed admission program for UC Davis so that I can fall back on that if needed and info on that if anyone has it would be awesome too. Any help on what path I should take to get to UCLA would be GREATLY appreciated (and if you had any advice on what to do to prepare for this path I would appreciate that too)! My future is on the line so thank you so much for any help you can provide!
It’s easier from a California CC since UCLA is really hard to get into. Once at a CCC do all your pre-recs from http://www.assist.org/web-assist/welcome.html and get involved in really good ECs
Go to a community college that offers all of the pre-recs you’ll need for your major. Keep your GPA up, hopefully in the 4.7+ range (not sure for your major, just in general for UCLA) and try so so so hard to get A’s in all of your pre-rec classes. Once you have that down, get involved. My CCC (SMC) has a stem program that I would definitely look into for the CCC you attend. Try and get involved in school by holding leadership positions and volunteering consistently starting now. Just remember that GPA/finishing pre-recs are THE most important parts. Also follow and finish IGETC, the core classes for everyone. Try to finish any pre-recs the fall before you transfer if possible as well. Some people will tell you it doesn’t matter, but I’ve heard from multiple counselors that it does so I’d rather be safe than sorry. Good luck!!
Bump
Just came back from a tour at UCLA with my son today. The tour guide was a transfer student. She said that the transfer rate was about 25% so one out of four. She said that she basically just kept her grades up as high as she could. Once out of high school everything is wiped clean and you start fresh with just your CC grades. Work hard and talk to the councilors to make sure you are fulfilling all the UC requirements. Good luck.
join the college’s honors program.
Foothill and DeAnza are both great.
Take advanced math.
Look up the recommended classes for CSE at UCLA and try to take as many similar classes at the juco as you can.
Thanks for all the responses guys.
