I checked Amazon.com for my bookslist, and I didn't find any better prices. Most of them aren't even on Amazon. Also, I'm not sure if I'll actually need all of these books. Has anyone gone through freshman year in any courses without buying the "required books"? I did this at my PSO class and ended up saving over 100 dollars for one class because I never needed the books.

I'm not buying my studio books yet b/c we got a letter saying not to. As for my other class, none of the online places I've looked have them.

Try half.com and ecollege.com (i think..that second link may be wrong, though).

really? i found all the books i need except for the wte books on amazon and half.com (11 out of 13), and the prices were way cheaper than the nyu bookstore had them listed for. ($450 vs $300 - which includes shipping)

For classes like Conversations of the West, you're much better off getting the books out of the library. You'll only need each book for a week or so, as it's a survey class. If you see a class with a lot of books listed, you might want to hold off on purchasing anything until you have the syllabus and can see how much you'll actually be reading. For example, don't buy the entire Bible so you can read 10 pages of Genesis when your professor asks you to.

scrapnel - writing the essay books are the ones I'm talking about...also the LB....whatever it is, one

Depending on the classes you have, some books may be NYU specific, so you may have trouble find them on amazon.com or something like that. I would recommend waiting until classes start to buy books. Chances are if you need something right after the 1st class, you can run over to the bookstore, but that probably won't be the case.

LB stands for little brown book...both my writing the essay teachers taught regularly from it...it's just a handy guide for paper writing.

As for borrowing from the library: it's certainly a possibility, but keep in mind there are 250 other kids in the class, and some of them are bound to have the same idea...
