Best way to prep for my needs?

I took the ACT in June 2012 and I got a 28 in English, 30 mathematics, 31 reading, and 26 science. I didn't study for the ACT but studied for the SAT when I took the ACT.

What books do you think I should use and what I should do to help bring my composite score up to a 33+ ?

Thanks

I have been using Barron’s ACT 36 and it helps a lot. Also use The Real ACT Prep Guide (The Red Book) for its five official ACT practice tests. Make sure that when you do the practice tests, you dissect the questions you get wrong so that you don’t make the same mistakes in the future.

Good luck preparing for the ACT and I hope you reach a 33+!

Thank you for replying. I also have the Barron’s ACT 36 book as well. What score range are you around? I read through the information in the Barron’s book but I didn’t see anything to be really helpful. How did you use the Barron’s 36 to its fullest? Many have said it is helpful and so I wanted to know what is really helpful in that book.

Thanks

I scored a 27 on the June ACT and am hoping to score a 30-31+ on the September ACT. I have not worked through all the sections of Barron’s ACT 36, but the best thing about the book is that the questions are harder than the real ACT. I recently worked through the English section of the book and then did a practice test and my score increased to a 31.

I am not aiming to score as high as you but I believe that the book will benefit you just as it benefits me. Try the book and if you don’t like it, then don’t use it. I would recommend working through each section of the book and then doing practice tests targeted to that specific section. That’s what I have done and it has helped me increase my scores.

Again, I am not as high of a scorer as you, so there may be things that work for me that don’t work for you. If you need additional advice, look through other threads on the forum that are targeted towards scoring high on the ACT.
