What are the best ways through undergrad/ best extra curriculars to get into a top 10 law school? Are there majors that are better ( I was thinking IR and History with a minor in finance) etc.
Get a high GPA and LSAT. EC’s etc. don’t mean much to law school adcoms.
Get A’s, and lots of 'em. Even A+'s, if professors give them out and they show on the transcript. The rest of what you may do while at Tufts won’t much matter. (Recommend taking the LSAT after graduation.)
Get a high GPA, high LSATs is the first thing. You will also need great recommendations and outstanding essays. I’d also suggest that you try to work as a paralegal or something in a law related field (some people take a gap year to do this or you can do it over the summer). Strong ECs are can help a bit – I’ve seen successful candidates do things like debate, do research with a professor etc.
But it is kind of like getting into a top 10 college – the acceptance rates are low so it is a bit of a crapshoot even if you do everything right.
You definitely do not need great recs or essays. I’m pretty sure no one even reads those.
I second the getting legal experience though. Not because it will help with admissions, which it probably won’t, but because it’s a good idea to try law and make sure you like it before buying one of the most expensive educations on the planet.
