Just wanted to tell all the new freshman and their families, I hope you have a great year, and ditto for returning students.

I have two Muhlenberg students who work for me in the summer, and a rising hopeful…it is kind of funny because on the kid’s tip jar, they have all of their colleges listed and the one that gets the most response and comments in Muhlenberg ( even with an Ivy and other larger, more recognizable schools ) :)

Just wanted to add my good wishes also, and thanks to all who helped w/ info for my daughter transferring from another school into the theater program. So far, so good!

abparent - don’t know if your daughter has heard about the spring musical, but it’s actually a preview of a new musical by Charles Strouse (composer of Bye, Bye Birdie and Annie, as well as other shows). Since my daughter is going to London this semester, she attended auditions this past Sunday held for all students going abroad who wish to be cast in spring shows (since they audition for spring shows in November). Anyway, aside from the usual Muhlenberg faculty, she also auditioned in front of Strouse’s wife (Barbara Siman), and performed a song that he had written (I can’t remember, but it might have been from Bye, Bye Birdie). She said it was a bit nerve-wracking, but once she relaxed she felt like she did really well.

teriwtt - Yes, Charlie Richter had mentioned it to us at my D’s audition in the spring and they discussed more last night. Our D is very excited about the new musical and hopes to play a part in it in some way, backstage or onstage, this semester or next. I know she’s glad about the number of performance opportunities she might have all the way around. Here’s hoping all the kids can show their best with auditions. Good luck to your daughter hearing back and wishing her well in London!

Any other facts about the theater program? I would love to know, also I hear the school is fairly conservative, is this true?

Elephantsweaters, if you have any specific questions about the theater program, you can PM me. I’m a sophomore theater major and I’d be happy to give you any info you want.

As to Berg being conservative… That’s really not true at all. I mean there are some conservative students, obviously, but in general the student body tends towards the liberal end of the spectrum.

Elephantsweaters, if you have not already done so, take a look on the musical theatre major board. There is quite a bit of info about Muhlenberg’s theatre program there.

elephantsweaters, regarding political affiliations at Muhlenberg, I think my D said she saw two McCain/Palin signs in windows during the election season, as opposed to many, many Obama/Biden signs. I also noticed you are concerned about an overtly Greek life. While Muhlenberg does have a Greek life, it does not dominate the campus. Also, most of the theatre majors that wish to pledge, tend to go with one particular frat (for the life of me, I can’t remember it).

ChellyBelly - are you involved with any of the New Voices one-acts next week? I will be making a quick trip out there to see them, even though my D is in London this semester.
