Best work study jobs?

^I don't think so. I for one am not considered one currently, so I didn't have to fill out the CA tax forms.

There are tons of requirements to be a CA resident--you would need to read the requirements. What are you trying to qualify for residency for? If it's for applying to UCs & CSUs, you need to read their sites & be sure you follow their rules.

I'm not going to do work study, but is it possible to be a campus tour guide and get paid for it? like a normal employee
Or would priority for that job go to work-study students?

^ A Campus tour guide isn't a work-study job, but it is VERY competitive. They usually do the hiring in winter, and they actually do make you write an essay and go to an interview where they do role-playing situations on "how would you answer this question from a prospective student" and stuff like that. I didn't apply, but my friend did and got rejected. According to his rejection email, only 10% of the applicants were hired. So it's tough.

Oh, btw there are several different departments for tour guides. One is the admissions dept and another is some of the schools that hire their own tour guides, like the College (Ambassadors) and Viterbi (VSAs). Again, all are highly competitive to apply for.

The College Ambassadors isn't at all competitive, but we also aren't exactly tour guides. However, management roles in it are probably competitive. We just host students, do panels, and are on the scholarship interview teams.

^ ahhh, didn't know that. The VSAs, however, are competitive, I know that.

For those anyone interested in ISD jobs, work-study or non, they did post a list today of jobs available in the fall. I'm not sure if you are able to apply yet as you aren't officially enrolled in classes, but it's worth a look:
