Best/Worst Admission/Rejection Letters/Packages.

I saw this thread in the University section and thought we should do it according to our oh so wonderful prep schools as well! I got an acceptance letter from Loomis and then a few months later I got a T-Shirt. Very cool. Choate's Waitlist letter was very "we sent this out to everyone who we can't reject straight up." Not very hopeful. :P

I liked Choate’s waitlist letter. It was really nice.

I liked how Northfield Mount Hermon sent me two sports bags along with two bracelets (I think they meant to only sent one). And then Putney sent me a little toy cow. I also liked how St. Marks sent me a link to a video in which the entire school is shown saying congratulations. Although, the Middlesex and Choate waitlist letters were actually a little cold…

Maybe after seeing 4 rejections and then a waitlist, it seemed nicer to me.

I thought Deerfield had a very tasteful let down letter for students on their WL.

Emma Willard sent a hand written card and a tote bag. When I confirmed I’d be going there they then sent a large baloon in an equally large box and had it taped to the bottom so when I opened it, out popped a large colorful baloon that had a big fat WELCOME written on it. Made my day.

Emma Willard’s sounds really cool!
Choate’s waitlist letter seemed a little standoffish to me though!
I still think the T-Shirt is very cool but a TOTE BAG! And a BRACELET! Excuse Me While I Apply There!

Ditto RBGG - Deerfield’s waitlist letter.

Mercersburg had midnight online notification and the coolest thing was that they said that the admissions staff would be in the office until 1:00 am if you wanted to call. I thought that was so incredibly thoughtful. Here are these kids who are thrilled to death but it’s after midnight so they can’t call anyone, so they made themselves available. It really made me think that this school “gets” kids.

(I really like M’burg, in case you can’t tell  )

L’ville, on the other hand, had a rather crude rejection letter IMO. It actually said that “there were simply candidates with better credentials.” Really? Credentials? I’m sure there were kids who simply fit better, or offered some needed talent, or that they just liked better or whatever; but when I think of credentials, I think of things like grades, ssat’s, recs, awards, etc. So all of the accepted kids had better credentials? I highly doubt it.

Andover sent a folder with a handwritten card from my interviewer and a little something written by dean of admissions. So far I have two t shirts that I got free from them. One at open house, another at revisit. I think Exeter had the worst rejection letter.

What was Exeter’s rejection letter like? I thought their acceptance letter was just a wee bit over the top, but my son ate it up and it made my mother-in-law cry.

T-Shirt’s are pretty cool. NMH’s package sounds quite interesting actually.
Deerfield’s waitlist letter. I never got it! How is it tasteful?
Lawrenceville’s Rejection letter was terrible I heard. I find it hard to believe they said that their accepted students had better credentials! That sounds AWFUL. I heard Deerfield
s acceptance made you feel very special. And I also heard you get to start doing all sorts of cool stuff right away (e.g course selection, dorm room stuff) A few years ago, they sent out green M&M’s.

neato I will pm you the rejection letter

Thanks for the PM, hopeful. I didn’t think that was so bad.

I talked to an admissions person at the exeter revisit and she said it was really really hard to deny so many really fantastic kids. She said that there were “so many” wonderful applicants that they had to turn away.

I don’t doubt it for a second.

I personally don’t think any of the waitlist / rejection letters I received were bad.

I was very impressed with the personalization of the Governor’s Academy acceptance package. They remembered preferences and personal points of discussion for my d.

the sps rejection was very generic… we have one of the toughest years blahblahblah. Peddies acceptance was really warm and lawrencevilles original waitlist was very discouraging, but everything ended well in the end :)

Exeter’s acceptance was pretty…well…enthusiastic.

Deerfield’s acceptance was great too (made me feel special because I got a note from the dean of admissions).

St. Paul’s waitlist letter was really supportive (toughest year to get in blah blah ect…).

Hotchkiss’s waitlist letter was also bittersweet.

And Andover’s let down was gentle, but the writing seemed as if a robot had written it…

i got a bag of white and green m&m’s, a beautiful poster of Deerfield, and personalized (w/ handwritten note from dean of admission) acceptance letter from DA when I got accepted. I felt so special :)

Mercersburg sent a t-shirt with the acceptance. Nice touch.
