My DD was nominated for membership in Beta Gamma Sigma-an honor society for business students. She was not planning to accept the nomination, but I told her that I thought she should, that it is a recognition of her efforts and would look good on her resume. There is a one-time fee of $65.

The only way I even knew of her nomination was that the school also sent us a letter at home inviting us to the induction dinner.

Do any of you have an opinion on this?

ha, I'm a member of Beta Gamma Sigma.

That entitles me to put it on a resume, and get solicited for donations from them for the rest of my life.

It's just Phi Beta Kappa, but for business schools.

I've no idea if it was "worth" it; just another factoid on a resume that might indicate that, at one time in my life anyway, somebody determined that I seemed to be relatively accomplished by their standards, at least.

Might mean more if it had more name recognition, like Phi Beta Kappa does. Maybe a lot of people assume I'm mentioning I was in some fraternity.

my son was invited too but I think he'll pass. He already is a Phi Kappa Phi and we haven't found that to be of much help (just a brief resume notation).
Honestly, I never heard of Beta Gamma Sigma. Do these kinds of organizations make a profit - or are they non-profit?

I'm pretty sure they are non-profit. I'm surprised your son got both, because my business school only offered BGS, and I thought that it was, alone, the honor society for business schools. But mine was an MBA program, don't know if that makes any difference.

It's not a "fly-by-night", there are sponsoring chapters all over the place. But it does seem specialized for business schools. So I thought. Most have never heard of it due mostly to specialization. I'd never heard of it either. Which of course has to limit its already limited utility.

Card Carrying MBA member here as well - it is on the resume, but the pin I got at graduation is still in the jewelry box, never worn. I don't remember having to pay for it though. FWIW, I don't think that line on the resume ever got me the job over someone who did not have it, so it is up to you, congratulations on the achievement though!

Beta Gamma Sigma is the equivalent of Phi Beta Kappa for those who attend undergraduate business school. It indicates a very high GPA and high level of achievement in your college studies. I would definitely accept it.
