Better at McGill: Laptop or Desktop?

I'll obviously be bringing only one over, so i'm wondering if i should just lug my desktop or opt to buy a laptop somewhere. Which one is more beneficial for the type of work i'll be doing and the environment, etc?

thanks

all of mcgill is wireless- go for a laptop... lots of students use laptops in class etc.

i can't speak for McGill specifically, but i think that a laptop is a practical choice for its versatility. you can use it in your room, in the library, in class, and on weekends/holidays when you come home, and it takes up fair less space in your room and in your luggage.

laptops get stolen eaisly...i know 3 people who have got theirs stolen this year from inside their rooms...

if u dont go to the library to study and dont need to take ur laptop to class....i say get a desktop its cheaper and much more powerful...

i had a laptop this year...i personally took it down to campus like 3 times the entire year...and the wireless at mcgill really sucks, especially after u get used to the high speeds of the rez connection...

It definitely depends on what you are planning on doing. If your careful about security and such, and don't care about the computer having a lop of power, then go for a laptop.

It is really nice being able to have a laptop. I don't go to the library much, but when I do, it's nice not having to wait for a computer to free up.

dkm is right though, the wireless in the classrooms suck.

Good luck on the choice.

Laptop got stolen?? How possible??/...suppose that u live in a single...how can others break into your room????

Mostly absent-minded people who leave their doors open/unlocked.
Or people who leave their computers unattended in the library or something.
