Hey guys,
I am going to be applying to colleges next school year, and I was considering applying early decision to Tepper School of Business.
However, I am unsure. Being a California resident, it would be easier for me to go to Berkeley, and also it would be preferable to go to Haas. However, you have to wait until Sophomore Year to transfer into Haas, and if you do not get in, then have you wasted two years?
This is my main question: Would it be better to get into Economics at Berkeley, and then apply to Haas (How hard is Haas when you’re applying from Berkeley), especially since it would be a LOT cheaper? OR: Would Tepper be safer since Early Decision would help me get in, and you do not apply during your Sophomore Year, so you’re guaranteed a Business Administration degree?
Essentially: Is Tepper a good investment, as it is very costly? Or would I be better off doing Economics at Cal?
ALSO, I would like to pursue Management Consulting after college, if that changes the decision in any way.
Thank You
You should look at the NPC for each school. CMU is not known for good FA and tuition is very high. Instate tuition at Cal is very low. If you have the Stats to get into Cal, and can afford CMU, why not apply ED to Wharton which is better than either one?
Haas a great instate option but the fact that it is not direct admit is a major consideration. If you have Berkeley level stats may want to apply to several top 20 programs and make your choice based on the options you have. Indiana Kelley with some merit award may be another good option.
Hey guys, thanks for your answers.
I have the stats for Cal’s Letters and Sciences, just to be clear. Once I would get in, THEN I would attempt a transfer into Haas. Also, I believe my Stats give me a decent shot at Tepper, but ONLY if I apply Early Decision. I do not think I have a realistic chance at Wharton. I was thinking of something that’s not too expensive, but will give me good placement into Consulting, and Haas/Econ seems like a good option, but would CMU give me a MUCH better chance? If so, it seems worth it. How hard is it to get into Haas as a transfer from the College of Letters & Sciences?
