Last week I got a big packet from the UC's office of the president saying I was in the top 4% of my class based on their A-G requirements, and that I was designated eligible for admission into the UC system through the "Eligibility in the Local Context." I was wondering if this would increase my chances at UCLA and UCB, and cna this help me get scholarships at the UC's? (I go to one of the best public schools in California)

Yeah, I got that too. I know they guarantee you into one of the UCs (which doesn't really help much b/c if you are in the top 4% of your class you will probably get into one anyway), but I dont know if it will help you get into UCLA or UCB. I do know that 61% of ELC got into Cal and 50% got into UCLA last year, so I imagine it helps some.

ELC and a better chance to admission into UCLA and UCB are somewhat CORRELATED. that is, the acceptance rate of ELC students is significantly higher than the acceptance rate of non-ELC students. however, that does not necessarily mean that ELC CAUSES better admission chances into UCLA and UCB. as for scholarships, the major school-based ones, such as regents and alumni, look for other factors than ELC-status since many of the awardees are probably in the top 4% already anyway.
