I don't know whether I'll get the most out of taking the subject tests in December 2013 and SAT in January 2014, or vice versa. Which month has the better curve for either test?

if you’re deciding what date to take them based off of the better “curve”, then I don’t think you’re gonna do too well. You should take it WHEN YOU’RE READY. If you’re ready by December, take it then. If you’re not ready until Jan., then wait.

And also, the curves for subject tests rarely vary by much, unlike the regular SAT.

I always thought January had a better curve because of what my friends were saying but honestly, there are going to be outstanding students taking the test for every month so all the curves are most likely similar. I ended up taking it in December and did fairly well.

Don’t base it on the supposed ‘curve’. Take it when, like satman said, you’re ready for the test. If you think you’ll need an extra month and a half, then take it in January. If you think you’re already well-prepared, then take it in December. I think it’s better to take it earlier but that’s just me. Good luck!
