So, What I am talking about is CAP…I have never heard of it until I came on this forum. My school doesn’t offer JROTC and I believe I need some experience in a military environment. I am a Boy Scout though, but I believe CAP would be nice to.

What do you think? Better late than never? I just turned 16. Give it a shot?

I joined when I turned 16 as well. If you work hard you can earn your Billy Mitchell award before you graduate high school which is a BIG plus on applications. I may even be able to earn it before the end of this year.

I started in October of my junior year in high school and will get my Billy Mitchell Award sometime in February hopefully. I think it is definitely worth it. Good opportunities and experiences.

I've got many buddies in cap that got huge discounts while earning their private pilots license, which can earn you some brownie points with admissions.

I've definitely learned a lot from it both on the leadership side and the military side. I should be getting my mitchell in the next few months or so and I can tell you that if you excell within your squadron many leadership awards and opportunities can come out of it. You will need sixteen months at the bare, bare minimum to achieve the Mitchell. (Assuming you sign up here in the spring, definitely apply for the wing encampment which is needed for your Mitchell.)

If you work hard anything is possible just put forward your best food. CAP is awesome and the Mitchell is a big plus, I got mine back in '05, earhart in '06. Ive been in for 3.5 years and I am a cadet major, just join and you will love it.

I enjoyed it for the short time I was in it...only was a cadet A1C, but learned a few things. It's totally up to you...it won't hurt you to be in it, but you can learn a few things if you work hard in it, especially if you have a good squadron.
