Better major for pre med here at UCSB? Pllleaasee help!

I can't decide between physiology or biopsychology. I know it basically doesn't matter which one I pick, but which one would be more interesting for you, giving you a higher GPA? I plan to go to med school of physical therapy school.

Physiology: the study of living organisms and the functions that they complete, also the study of these functions at the molecular level.

Biopsychology: the study of the relationship between brain function and behavior. Basically the study of why we do what we do.

Honestly, I’d just go with whatever you think is more interesting. Physiology is probably better if you plan on going into physical therapy. And I’m inclined think biopsych would be better for med school, since new advances in medicine are going to come from a better understanding of the brain. But like I said, I’d make your decision based on what you’re most interested in. You’re going to have a much better experience (and a higher GPA) if you really enjoy what you are studying and look forward to learning.

And if you’re really torn between the two and can’t pick a favorite, I’d go for biopsych. I’m transferring to UCSB this fall as a biopsych major, so I’ve already taken an intro to biopsych type class and I know there’s some physiology associated with the major. Not a ton outside of the structure of the brain and nervous system, but you’d learn some physiology as a biopsych major, whereas you probably wouldn’t learn much (if anything) about biopsych as a physio major, if that makes sense.

I would go with Physiology just because it sounds more interesting than biopyschology. Go with what you like MORE. (:
