Better Path for Med School: BS-MD combined program or separate degrees?

Which would be a better path to take if I want to become a surgeon: a BS-MD combined program, or getting a BS and and MD separately (the traditional route)? What are the benefits and drawbacks of each?

I am fully dedicated to becoming a surgeon, and will be pursuing this career path. I wanted to know the best way to attaining my MD. I am currently a rising high school senior, and wanted to know which path I should go for.

Thank you!

If you are fully committed, and can get admitted to a BS-MD program, that is somewhat quicker, possibly somewhat less expensive, and guarantees your space in Med School. So go ahead and apply to some of those programs.

But given how selective the BS-MD programs are, chances are that you won’t get into any of them. Be sure to apply to some regular colleges and universities too.
