better to get a B in a class or take it for p/np?

I'm currently a sophomore taking my first upper-div PS class. On the midterm I got a B/B- on the two essays and I'm not really confident I'll be able to bring it into the A-/A range by the end of the semester.

So my question is whether I should take this class for letter-grade and risk getting something as low as a B- or whether to take it p/np? Currently my GPA is a 3.75, if that helps at all.

It’s better to take it p/np as long as you don’t end up with np.

Ps are not significant negatives, Bs are big ones. (About a third of my credits were Ps - if they had been Bs instead I would have been screwed).
