Better to take more classes and do pretty good or excel fewer classes

Is it better to take more classes and do pretty good or excel with fewer classes (by fewer, I mean like one less major science 4 credit class like physics) I am already taking chem, I didn't want to add the load of physics as well and not do well enough to transfer. Good decision? Bad?

i think it’s a pretty good decision. it all depends on your situation. if you have to work and go to school at the same time for example, universities know that your time is divided and hence don’t expect you to take a million units. They also don’t expect you to start taking like 20 units your first semester either. but if you do take on a lighter load, it wouldn’t hurt to pace yourself and take more units as more semesters pass by.

This is relevant to my interests .
We all know that a higher GPA is better. But would colleges favor ( for instance) a 3.9 cumulative gpa for someone that takes 4 classed a quarter vs someone that takes 5, had all 4.0s except in one class that they bomb, and get a cumulative of , say, a 3.3. ?

As a generality, it’s better to take a ‘normal’ load (15-16 credits) and get better grades than a heavier load and do poorer. One should not take a lighter load in order to increase gpa.
