Better to transfer from a cc or low rank LAC?

Hi,

There is a fourth tier LAC near me that I am almost certain I could get in to. I'm currently a freshman at a good cc (good imo) with a 3.9, good ECs (political and community service), Honors program and honors club (no SAT scores, yet). The schools I am interested in transfering to are Swarthmore, Colgate, Reed, Occidental and Berkeley (Swarthmore and Oxy are my top picks). Would it look better to to stay at the cc and apply directly to those schools as a junior transfer or transfer to the LAC as a sophmore and then apply to my target schools as a junior transfer?

I would stay at the CC. I don't think it makes much of a difference if you apply from a CC or a 4th tier LAC. If it was a better school, yeah, things would look differently.

Also, if you try to transfer from the LAC you will need a good reason for transferring again. If you say you don't like the school or it's not challenging enough, then why did you transfer there in the first place? Especially because you knew you could get into a "better" school.

Are you in a California cc?

Unfortunately I am not in a ccc. I thought about trying to transfer to one to take online classes but then realized that would cut me off from instructors for recs.
